School visits help with education on animal care

Schools can contact the SPCA to arrange visits.

The Brakpan SPCA recently visited Laerskool Dalview to talk to learners over three days about the five freedoms of animals and how happy and healthy dogs look.

The society is committed to various tasks, such as attending to cruelty complaints, collecting animals, conducting home inspections and running the daily operations of the facility. Amid this, staff understand the significance of education.

They believe the future lies in the hands of the youth who are taught to care for the environment, animals and each other.

The children learnt how to be responsible and compassionate pet owners. They also played with Rocky and Tyson – Boston terriers belonging to Brakpan SPCA manager Tamaryn Lombard – who demonstrated how well-trained the dogs are. The school also collected pet food to donate to the SPCA.

“We express our gratitude to the staff, principal, children and parents of Laerskool Dalview for making this event a success. We also thank them for their food contribution to our SPCA,” said Lombard.

Primary and high schools can arrange school visits by the SPCA to educate learners on responsible pet ownership and the role of the SPCA.
