Vorster ready to slap

Bulldog, as he is affectionately known, joined slap fight as a sport two years ago.

Brakpan’s Pieter ‘Bulldog’ Vorster believes the home support he will have when he takes on Herme Visser in Dalview, on December 9, in the national slap fight championships semi-final will be telling.

“If I have the community behind me, it will be great. I hear there will be a lot of Brakpan people coming to support me. I’m very prepared for this one,” he said.

“I have already signed to fight overseas if I win the title.”

Vorster says that he has put in the work on his fitness. He has made sure that his cardio work has been up to standard while also working on his neck muscles.

Bulldog, as he is affectionately known, joined slap fight as a sport two years ago.

“There was guy called Terrence Labuschagne at Caroline’s Café who called me and asked if I don’t want to do the slap fighting,” he said.

“I was interested so I agreed. This is my fifth fight and I’ve won all of them. I can still go on even though I’m 50 years old. I think I can still go for five years,” he said.

“If I get the right sponsors I can go far. Sponsorship is the main thing. It’s like boxing, if you don’t have sponsors then it becomes a battle to achieve your goals. I make sure I have their company’s names on my T-shirt.”

While Vorster is feeling confident, he believes the support from his home town could be key against Visser.

“If I can get a lot of support from the community it will help,” he said.

So what should the fans expect from Bulldog?

“You know what’s going to happen in this fight. I think I’m going to do it (beat him). I know what I can do and I’ve fought bigger guys than this guy. That Herme is a good guy and he’s a strong guy. But he has fought a guy who I also fought and I beat the guy while Herme got a draw,” said Vorster.

The event will be held at Rosetulee on December 9.
