Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from April 5 to 7.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:
Friday – A silver/grey Volkswagen Polo was stolen from Mall@Carnival.
• Outside security beams were stolen from a Hastings Avenue property.
• Cellphones and cash were stolen during a robbery at a retail store at Kwa-Thema Square in Maryvlei.
A man walked into the shop at around 14:40 and approached a cashier at the tills. He showed the cashier a gun concealed in his waistband.
A second gunman then entered the shop and told staff, “this is a robbery”.
The men demanded money and instructed the cashier to take them to the office where the safe containing cellphones was located.
The robbers were joined by a third accomplice who was carrying bags. The robbers emptied the safe and placed all the cellphones in the bags.

One of the men also emptied the tills of money. Staff and customers were closed in a store room and the trio fled.
A case of business robbery is under investigation.
• Music equipment and instruments, a TV, a microwave and a coffee machine were stolen during a break-in at a business along Rooibos Street in Dalpark.
Saturday – A home in Joubert Street, Brenthurst, was burgled of a TV, a kettle, a microwave and jewellery.
According to a witness, the perpetrators were three men travelling in a Honda Civic.
• A grey Toyota Fortuner was stolen from Willey Street in Dalview.
Sunday – An attempt was made to steal a white Nissan NP200 bakkie from an address along Blyde Avenue in Leachville.
The vehicle, which had been parked in a locked garage, was found near the front gate. The bakkie’s battery and spare wheel were stolen and the dashboard was stripped.
• Outside security beams were stolen from a property along Lawrence Road in Dalpark.
• A vehicle parked along Victoria Avenue was broken into and R3 000 cash was stolen.
The money was taken from a handbag left inside the vehicle. The handbag, which also contained personal items belonging to the victim, was found discarded nearby.
