Near-miss collision leads to hijacking

It is unclear how many occupants were in the Corolla but the victim was then threatened at gunpoint.

A motorist who pulled over on the side of the road to avoid a collision with another vehicle soon found himself the target of hijackers.

According to Brakpan SAPS, the incident took place along Heidelberg Road at around 10:15 on Friday.

The victim, travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Hilux, stopped at a four-way stop near Withok Estates and noticed a white Toyota Corolla hastily approaching from the rear.

Fearing the Corolla would hit his vehicle, the victim moved out of the way.

He pulled over into the veld and the Corolla stopped. The victim then got out of his vehicle to question the driver about his actions.

It is unclear how many occupants were in the Corolla but the victim was then threatened at gunpoint.

He was instructed to get back into the bakkie and drive.

The hijackers took him to a secluded area where he was placed in another vehicle. He was tied up and blindfolded.

His captors drove around with him for some time before he was eventually released in an unidentified area.

Cases of kidnapping and hijacking are under investigation.
