Eventide receives more blankets

The blankets were donated to a ladies ward in the home.

Sip ‘n Crochet, a charity group that crochets granny square blankets for charity and meets once a month, along with Springs’ Cro-Knitters group, donated six blankets to the Eventide Old Age Home for one of their women’s wards.

The cheerful, bright pink blankets were put together by the Sip ‘n Cro and Cro-Knitters groups over the last few months, and some of the women from both groups came together at Eventide to hand over the blankets to the home.

Heather Bendeman, the founder of Sip ‘n Cro, decided on the project after a previous visit to hand over blankets made by both groups. These blankets were distributed among the residents who need them most.

At the time Heather was given a tour of the home and introduced to staff and residents.

She spoke to one of the residents of the wards, Valery Nel. Valery heard that Heather donated crocheted blankets and struck up a conversation with her, talking about how she used to be an avid knitter and crocheter before her hands became too weak.

Heather determined that the women’s ward needed a set of cheerful blankets, and the crocheting on the six pink blankets began. Valery was present when the group delivered the blankets and was overwhelmed with gratitude.

“You can’t see it, but I feel so grateful, deep in my heart. The blankets are so cheerful, they bring light and warmth to the room,” she told the group.
