Want to join a sports club, but don't know where to look? Don't worry, we have the list you need. Take a look at the various clubs and associations you can be a member of.

There are many sports clubs and associations based in Brakpan that people can be a part of. From rugby to darts to fishing to netball, karate, soccer and even chess, here are the clubs and associations you can join:

• Brakpan Sports Association
The BSA is an association where several soccer teams, a netball team and starting this year basketball and chess, can compete under. Matches are at the Brakpan sports grounds. The first match of the season is on January 19. Soccer matches are on Saturdays for the juniors (U11 to U17) and Sundays for the seniors.

Netball is played on Saturdays, and practices are every day at the sports grounds. Any local football club can join the association, and individual players can also approach the association to get assigned to a team. For more information, contact chairperson Maria Makola on 083 561 5279.

• Ekurhuleni East Darts Association
The EEDA will be holding their AGM on January 15, at 19:00 in the Kingsway Club, at 108A Kingsway Avenue, where all plans for the year will be discussed. Anyone can join the association, and the club will open from January 16 on Thursdays. Those interested in joining can contact chairperson Leon Jooste on 083 287 0824.

• Phoenix Netball Club
The Phoenix club kicked off their year on January 7, playing this week at the Brakpan Sports Grounds. Anyone can join Juniors practice from 17:30 to 18:30, and seniors from 18:30 to 20:00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Those seeking more information may contact Angelique van der Merwe on 082 431 4254.

• Brakpan Ringball Club
Brakpan Ringball practices Mondays and Wednesdays, from 18:00 to 19:00 for juniors and 19:00 to 21:00 for seniors at the Brakpan Sports Grounds. The club opens on January 20, and interested parties can contact Corry Labuschagne on 060 961 9459, or club chairperson Bella Prinsloo on 074 025 9324.

• Brakpan Rugby Club
The rugby club invites all players, young or old, to come practice from January 7. The year ahead has a full program with many competitions. Any new players that want to know more can contact Micheal ‘Spanner’ Bekker on 084 562 1179, or Frikkie Bosman on 082 557 4807.

• Brakpan Pool Club
The Brakpan Pool Club has limited space for teams, with six spots per league. There is still one spot for an open team (anyone), five spots for seniors (over 40), and five spots for ladies. Ladies league plays on Monday nights, opens on Tuesday nights, and seniors on Wednesday, rotating between various clubs part of the East Gauteng Pool Association. The last Sunday of every month the club has a club competition open to the public, with limited spaces. Those interested in becoming part of the club can contact Shawn Raper on 082 672 0776.

• Dan Triangle Karate Club
The club trains at the Dalpark dojo on 7 Geelhaak Street on Monday and Wednesday from 17:30 to 18:15, Friday from 17:15 to 18:00 and Saturday from 10:00 to 10:45. They also provide training at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre from 17:30 to 18:15 on Mondays and Wednesdays for beginners. They opened on Friday, January 10, for the year. • Shotokan Karate Club
The club practices at 120A Wenden Street, in the church building on Monday to Thursday, 16:00 to 17:30, and Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00. Sensei Lolia Basa can be contacted on 071 884 3231 for those interested in enrolling.

• Saltare Family Dance School
Saltare opened for the year on January 6, for boeremusiek, ballroom, Latin, and line dancing lessons and practice. The school meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 17:00 to 21:00, and Thursdays from 18:30 to 21:00; at the NG Brakpan Oos church hall in Brenthurst. Those interested in joining can contact Anton Pretorius, the owner, at 084 499 5462.

• Dancing Stars Gauteng
Dancing Stars is a social group that does line dancing and country couples dance at the Cosy Corner in Brenthurst on Zeeman Street. Practice is Monday and Wednesday from 17:00 to 19:00, and all are welcome. Those interested can contact Petro Oelofse on 076 147 6932, or Yuveldi van den Heever on 065 890 3453.

• Brakpan Wrestling Club
The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:00 to 20:00 at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Complex on Elliot Avenue. All ages are welcome, and male and female wrestlers are catered to. For more information, contact Gert Erasmus on 076 022 7772.

• Kavalier Hengel Club
The club runs from September to September, fishing every first Saturday of the month in competitions around the Vaal Dam. Many of the members are from Brakpan, but many are from all over Ekurhuleni, and all are welcome. Those interested in joining can contact Juan van der Merwe on 081 439 9815.

• Brakpan GPU Pigeon Racing Club
The club’s AGM takes place on 28 January, at 18:30. The season’s first race is on May 31, with pigeons being loaded onto the truck on the 29th, and the last race is on October 4. Pigeons get loaded onto the transport truck every Thursday at 18:30 at the clubhouse on 23 Boundary Avenue and released the Saturday. Those interested in trying the sport can contact chairperson, Frik Smith, on 071 481 2438.
