Step into a healthier lifestyle with Carnival City parkrun
Start your year on a high note by joining over 400 runners weekly at the Carnival City parkrun.

The Carnival City parkrun has continually grown in popularity since it started in November of 2022, and has had more than 110 events at the casino’s trail to date.
While the parkrun is still young and holds no records nationally, it frequently sees between 400 and 450 runners (and walkers) each Saturday, according to the CEO of parkrun Southern Africa, Bruce Fordyce.
For those who want to step into 2025 with a healthier mindset, the weekly parkrun is a good place to start. In addition to improving fitness through running and walking, parkruns also provide mental health benefits.
What makes them excellent is their suitability for all fitness levels, and they accommodate both the young and the old.
Newbies sign up now, and existing runners and walkers, continue to do what you know.
How parkrun works
There is a two-step process – register and rock up.
• Registering on www.parkrun.co.za is easy. You will receive a parkrun barcode that you need to bring with you to be scanned when you cross the finish line.
This will allow you to get your weekly times, as well as your overall placement and your placement within your gender and age groups.
• Put on a pair of tekkies, arrive before the 08:00 whistle, and enjoy a leisurely walk or run along the 5km route. It’s that simple, and it’s free.
It’s even more enjoyable with a companion, so invite a spouse, child, or friend to join you. They can also act as an accountability partner for days when you need some motivation. In addition, the parkrun community is very friendly, and you can chat with others as you go.
The parkrun is also dog-friendly, and your four-legged friends will be very happy for the outdoor time with you. Please bring bags with you and pick up after them.
Volunteers are also greatly welcomed.
The Carnival City parkrun is a one-lap course on a fairly flat trail. The start and finish are behind the casino on Century Road.
