Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from April 4 to 6.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A home in Ashton Street, Sonneveld, was broken into but nothing was taken.

It is believed the intruder/s were disturbed when the home’s alarm was triggered. It was found the electrical fencing had been cut, and a window was removed to gain access to the house.

• A burglary was reported at a business along Van der Walt Road in Dalview. It is believed entrance was gained through the ceiling. The stolen items were not disclosed.

• Cash and cellphones were stolen during an armed robbery at a shop along High Street. Two of the robbers had been in the shop earlier that afternoon at about 14:00. Soon after entering the shop, one of the men stepped outside, occupied on his cellphone.

A store employee asked the remaining man if he could assist him, and the man replied that he was waiting for his companion.
This man then also exited the shop.

The pair returned with another man at around 16:00. While the store employee was helping a customer, he heard the sound of firearms being cocked.

The two men from earlier were both holding guns and instructed everyone in the shop to lie down and not make any noise.
The pair went to the tills and helped themselves to cash.

They also took two cellphones before running out of the shop, and made their getaway in a white Renault Clio.
A business robbery docket was opened.

Saturday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.

Sunday – A man was robbed at gunpoint along Main Reef Road, Anzac. The victim was walking home from work when, at about 06:20, he was confronted by two men.

One of them pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim, demanding his belongings. The robbers searched him and took his cellphone, jersey and boots.

• A white Ford Ranger was stolen from an address along Northdene Avenue.

• A laptop, a bicycle, jewellery and other household items were stolen during a burglary at a home along Frere Avenue.
