Motorist hijacked in daylight attack at traffic lights

The victim was abducted and later dumped in Orange Farm.

The driver of a white Suzuki Swift was robbed of the vehicle while stationary in traffic in Witpoort Estates last Thursday.

According to police information, the incident took place at around 09:00 at the Springs and Denne roads intersection.

The victim was boxed in by two cars while stopped at the lights.

He was waiting for the lights to change, when he observed a man exiting the car behind him.

Another man then exited the vehicle in front of him.

The man from the rear vehicle climbed into the victim’s car, and the other threatened him with a firearm through the driver’s side window.

The gunman returned to his own vehicle, and the victim was told by his new passenger to co-operate and drive to a nearby informal settlement.

Upon arrival at the settlement, the victim was forced into the back of another vehicle where he was blindfolded and forced to lie down.

After being driven around for about an hour, the vehicle stopped and the victim was told to get out of the car.

He was instructed to look ahead and walk away.

A passer-by informed the victim he was in the informal settlement of Tjovito, Orange Farm.

He was able to seek help and his employer was contacted.

Cases of hijacking and kidnapping are under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
