Life Dalview Hospital applauds nursing heroes

Local hospital salutes its nurses in honour of International Nurses Day.

In celebration of International Nurses Day, which is commemorated annually on May 12 (yesterday), Life Dalview Hospital proudly recognises the invaluable contributions of nursing professionals.

This year’s global theme was Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies.

“International Nurses’ Day is an important date on our hospital calendar as it allows us to honour and celebrate our nurses for their incredible commitment to excellence in patient care,” said hospital manager Nerine Adams.

“Our nurses not only work hard to provide quality care through their clinical expertise, but they also go above and beyond to lend a listening ear and provide a compassionate touch, which often contributes significantly to a patient’s recovery.

“It is their heartfelt care and dedication that truly sets them apart.

“At Life Healthcare, we understand that respecting, supporting, recognising, and caring for our nurses is vital to ensuring they can perform their roles effectively. “We value the person, not just the profession.

“This year’s theme serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of appreciating our nurses. We take immense pride in being a patient and people centric organisation.

“By placing our nurses at the centre of care, we naturally place our patients at the centre as well. When we empower our nurses and strengthen their well-being, we enable them to provide even better care for our patients.”

Adams shared they frequently receive heartfelt thank you notes and cards from patients and their families, expressing their gratitude to the nurses who stand by them in their times of illness and recovery.

“Today (Monday) serves as an opportunity to thank the local community for placing their trust in our nurses and hospital services. Let us continue to value and respect our nurses every day.”

Recognition in any profession plays a crucial role in uplifting individuals and boosting morale.

In line with International Nurses Day, Life Healthcare runs its annual Great 100 Nurses initiative, recognising the top 100 nurses chosen by their peers for their efficiency, quality, compassion, and enhancement of the patient experience.

This initiative celebrates nurses for their dedication to delivering exceptional care.

Life Dalview Hospital is proud to have four of its nurses as winners in this competition.

They are Elsie Lessing, Zandile Sishange, Suzette du Plessis and Nomusa Mtshali.

Lessing, Sishange and Du Plessis (midwife) are neonatal ICU registered nurse specialists while Mtshali is a trauma qualified registered nurse.

They have all been recognised as compassionate caregivers who demonstrate professionalism, clinical competence and leadership qualities.

“We congratulate all of this year’s Great 100 Nurses nominees and winners,” added Adams.
