Letter: Stranger pays pensioners’ bill in touching act of kindness
An ordinary errand turned extraordinary when a kind stranger stepped in to pay the bill.
Grateful pensioners write by email:
We have to tell you about this fantastic occurrence on April 29.
We went to Mall@Carnival to get a new battery for my wristwatch.
It is a jewellery shop that does that for us.
We were all done, and were about to pay when another customer in the shop turned around and told the shop owner that it would be for his account.
We told him that we could not accept his kind gesture, but he was adamant to settle the bill.
The tears were running down my cheeks.
What a surprise. Nowhere in the world would this happen, only in South Africa.
What a friendly lot of people live here.
