Minnebron hosts fun walk to build community

Minnebron is on the move. From fun walks to feeding the community, discover how one initiative is bringing neighbours together.

From Minnebron 4 Minnebron held another fun walk event on June 7. Afterwards, they distributed hot meals to those in need, using public donations. The initiative aims to build a healthier community and has big goals.

The park on Eric Holdtman Street in Minnebron, across from the shopping centre, will eventually get a facelift. Stanley Kelly hopes the metro will relocate exercise equipment from an unused park to this one.

Kelly, the initiative’s founder, also hopes to install a shipping container office in the park where learners can do their homework, print projects and read from a small library he plans to include in the container.

“We thank the donors who made the soup kitchen possible, allowing us to feed many with a hot meal today,” Kelly said on Saturday.

Rachel Adams, Lilian Radebe and Zodwa Ntshokoma dish up food for the community.

“We want to show them their donations support a healthier community. Special thanks to the Exel Edu Centre for providing their kitchen and pots at no cost to prepare the food,” Kelly added.

The Shades of Red Enterprises emergency response team was at the event in case of emergencies. The COBI Chaplaincy provided the beneficiaries with prayer and emotional support and helped serve at the soup kitchen.

Beyond the 5km fun walks and soup kitchen, Kelly hopes to build a thriving community network where Minnebron residents come together to support one another.

Residents are encouraged to join the fun walks and contribute ideas to empower the community.
