Athletes shine at CGA road running championships

Several of the athletes from the iRun athletics club are Brakpan-based.

Local athletes competed at the inaugural Provincial Road Running Championships held at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec on June 14.

Representing the iRun Athletics Club, they participated in the 5km and Road Mile events.

Coach Jared de Waal said, “The young athletes delivered impressive performances in both races.”

In the Road Mile, Megan-Ann Roberts and Matthew Pietoiusti earned bronze medals in the competitive U13 girls’ and boys’ categories, respectively.

“Strong runs also came from Caleb Roberts, who finished sixth, and Quade McGhee, placing 10th in the U13 boys’ division,” Jared noted.

“In the 5km junior event, JP van der Berg showed determination with a fourth-place finish, narrowly missing the podium.”

“These results highlight the growing strength and potential of iRun Athletics Club’s development squad,” he concluded.
