Two Hyundai H100s hijacked hours apart on Heidelberg Road

Within two hours, two Hyundai H100 drivers were targeted on Heidelberg Road in separate hijackings.

Two hijackings involving white Hyundai H100 light trucks occurred hours apart along Heidelberg Road on November 7.

Police information reveals the first victim was driving from Brakpan to Benoni at around 11:00, when he was stopped by a man wearing a work suit next to a white Volkswagen Polo.

The man claimed to be lost and asked for directions. While the victim was speaking to him, the man suddenly grabbed the keys from the ignition.

Two other men appeared and forced the victim into the Polo’s back seat.

A fourth man then drove the vehicle for about five minutes before transferring the victim into another car, which he believed to be an older model Honda.

The hijackers drove with the victim for about two hours before dropping him off in Freedom Park, where he walked to a nearby church to seek help.

Later the same day, at about 13:00, a second hijacking took place involving another white Hyundai H100 travelling along Heidelberg Road, at the corner of Springs Road, near Dalpark.

The victim passed through the traffic lights, and noticed a woman wearing a brown traffic officer’s uniform signalling for him to pull over.

The woman asked for his driver’s licence and then instructed him to step out of the vehicle. The victim was told to accompany her to a white Toyota parked nearby and to sit in the passenger seat.

The woman opened a laptop and appeared to be processing his licence details. The victim then felt something cold pressed against his neck, and realised it was a firearm.

A man exited the vehicle and forced the victim into the back seat, where his face was covered. While being driven around, the victim’s cellphone rang and he was ordered to answer and tell the caller that everything was fine.

The hijackers demanded the victim’s cellphone password, and then accessed his banking app and transferred money from his account.

After driving for some time, they stopped, forced the victim out, and drove off with the truck. The vehicle was transporting cargo valued at approximately R300 000.

Both incidents are under investigation by Brakpan SAPS.
