City intensifies festive safety measures with EMPD campaign

Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza warned criminals that the city is not a playground for lawlessness during the EMPD’s festive safety launch, where 68 new vehicles were introduced to boost policing.

The EMPD launched its festive safety campaign in Kempton Park on November 12. The launch comes at a crucial time, as it aims to ensure safety and stability during the G20 summit.

According to the EMPD, the focus is on visible policing, crime prevention, and traffic law enforcement. The EMPD also launched 68 vehicles as an additional resource to enhance crime prevention and service delivery.

At the launch, City of Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza emphasised that the city is not a playground for lawlessness and that those responsible for any crimes committed will face the consequences.

The MMC for Community Safety, Sizakele Masuku, also warned officers that misuse of the new fleet will not be tolerated. She said members of the public count on these vehicles to improve efficiency and response time.

“During this period of joy and goodwill, some road users end up being reckless; this may lead to fatalities and road accidents.

“Therefore, we urge members of the community in the City of Ekurhuleni to abide by the rules of the road and stay safe,” said the EMPD.

The EMPD wished all the citizens of Ekurhuleni a safe festive season.
