South Africa is the first country in the African continent to hold the G20 presidency since December 2024 until November 2025.
It’s all systems go in the City of Ekurhuleni as preparations to host the G20 Social Summit are at peak level. The G20 Social Summit South Africa 2025 is a powerful platform for shaping international policy and cooperation.
Since its inception in 1999, the G20 has grown from meetings of finance ministers to leaders’ summits, tackling issues from trade and sustainable development to energy and anti-corruption.
The City of Ekurhuleni is home to the OR Tambo International Airport, and the gateway to the African continent.
As such, the city and her citizens stand ready to welcome the world to Africa and to provide world class first-hand experience boasting rich socio-economic amenities through the tourism sector while showcasing uninterrupted social services to guests and providing safety assurance through rock-solid law enforcement agencies working together with disaster and emergency services.
The Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Boksburg is already abuzz and a hive of activity building up to host the G20 Social Summit from November 18 to 20, a precursor to the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
The social summit seeks to elevate issues of social development, equity, and inclusion to the same level of urgency as macroeconomic and financial concerns.
It will bring together a wide spectrum of stakeholders, governments, civil society, labour, youth, women, persons with disabilities, philanthropy, and grassroots organisations ensuring that the lived experiences of ordinary people help to shape G20 outcomes.
