Axe attack at traffic light leads to arrest in Brakpan CBD

A couple’s early-morning drive turned violent when four men approached their vehicle.

A man was arrested following the robbery of a couple in the Brakpan CBD during the early hours of November 16.

Police information reveals the husband and wife were travelling home along Prince George Avenue at around 03:45 when they stopped at a red traffic light at the Voortrekker Road intersection.

While stationary, four men approached the vehicle. One of the men struck the car with an axe and forced a door open.

The group then searched the couple and the vehicle, and made off with two cellphones. Shortly afterwards, a K9 Unit officer patrolling in the area came across a group of people fighting along Prince George Avenue.

When he stopped to investigate, he was informed that one of the men linked to the robbery had been apprehended.

The suspect was arrested and detained at the Brakpan Police Station. Police have opened cases of armed robbery (using other weapon) and malicious damage to property.
