Strength and gratitude mark Brakpan police year-end celebration

Local SAPS gathered for their year-end function to reflect on a difficult year, honour fallen officers, and show appreciation to members and retirees.

Brakpan police recently took a day off from their duties to gather, reflect on the past year, and give thanks.

The station’s year-end function was held at the Boksburg Prison function hall and was attended by operational and office members, component heads, and officers.

Among the other attendees were Brakpan CPF chairperson Tinus Jordaan, CPF secretary Lisa Jordaan, and some retired SAPS members.

Component heads spoke about the year that has passed, highlighting the resilience shown by members during difficult times.

This year, the station suffered a heavy loss with the death of two officers. The commanders acknowledged the strength, workmanship and support that members showed one another during these difficult periods.

The commitment and positive attitude members displayed in their daily duties were also recognised. The retired members were thanked for their years of service and received a gift as a token of appreciation.

“The spirit was of Christmas, and the attendees danced to music of different genres. Attendees received personalised gifts with a positive message.

“Lunch was served, and everyone mingled and danced,” said Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer, Constable Audrey Buthelezi.

The station’s commander, Brigadier Johanna Ngoma delivered a keynote address, sending a message not only to SAPS members but also to the Brakpan community:

“In the beginning of the year we normally plan the programme of the year, as guided by Jeremiah 29:11 (“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord). As the year is ending, it is time to review the plans, our success and achievements,” she said.

“2025 was a challenging year. We lost some of our members due to deaths and retirement. Retirement – we appreciate their contributions to the organisation. And for death, it is a critical time since the family will be going through the festive season without their loved ones.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management of Brakpan SAPS and all our members who are doing their utmost best in difficult situations, as well as our stakeholders, other law enforcement, security companies, reservists and the CPF.

“I am encouraging the SAPS members to serve our community with pride and honour. We are determined to enforce the law with zero tolerance to win the community’s trust.

“To our community members, we are here for you, as guided by Batho Pele principles. I wish everyone a safe festive season. Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

“Let us drink responsibly, respect other road users, and above all, say no to crime and no to GBV.”
