Festive waste removal plan rolled out in Ekurhuleni

Residents are urged to not to give “Christmas boxes” or gifts to municipal waste workers, as this practice goes against Council policy.

The City of Ekurhuleni has assured residents that waste removal services will continue as normal throughout the festive season, with the exception of Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.

Areas normally serviced on Christmas Day will instead receive waste collection on the same day the following week, in line with the official waste removal calendar.

“This will be the only disruption to waste services over the festive period. Collection will proceed as scheduled on all other days, including New Year’s Day,” said spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

The City has also urged residents not to give “Christmas boxes” or gifts to municipal waste workers, as this practice goes against Council policy and can negatively affect service delivery.

“While intended as a gesture of gratitude, the City said the practice often leads to reported incidents of abuse and distraction, impacting turnaround times and overall efficiency.”

Residents who experience waste removal interruptions are encouraged to report them to the City’s call centre on 0860 54 3000.
