Illegal miners cleared, Weltevreden Landfill Site ready to reopen

The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed the reopening of the Weltevreden landfill site on January 23, following law enforcement action to ensure a safe and secure environment.

The City of Ekurhuleni will reopen the Weltevreden landfill site in Brakpan tomorrow (January 23), following a recent law enforcement operation to clear it of illegal miners and restore a safe environment.

According to the municipality, the reopening of the landfill site is part of the city’s Fixing the Frontline programme, an initiative aimed at restoring core service delivery capacity, reducing over-reliance on contracted services, and ensuring municipal depots are properly equipped to meet the daily needs of residents.

The site is scheduled to reopen at 07:30.
