Bowls and Bingo: Fun awaits Brakpan players
The Springs Town Bowling Club’s Ultimate Action Bowls Six Pairs tournament hopes to grow membership by offering shorter games and monthly Friday competitions.
Brakpan residents looking for a fun and social way to kick off their weekends are invited to take part in the Springs Town Bowling Club’s new Ultimate Action Bowls Six Pairs tournament.
Launched on February 6, the monthly event offers fast-paced, short-format bowls followed by a lively Bingo night, perfect for both seasoned players and newcomers, especially young people keen to try something different.
The tournament takes place on the first Friday of every month until the end of the year, and players from Brakpan are encouraged to join in the action.

Speaking to the Brakpan Herald, the organiser and coach, Tony Tancrell, said that the tournament is aimed at attracting new members, especially the youth of Springs.
He said that the reason for short rounds is that the youth tend to get bored with 21 ends, so this is an opportunity for them.
“Although they might like the sport, playing long rounds might make them lose interest, so the tournament is for them to come and play with us and learn more.”
“Even though they don’t want to join the club, they are welcome to come and participate in the tournament,” said Tancrel.
Tancrel shared that the tournament was inspired by a game in Australia where they play short ends, which opens the door to sponsorship, which he says he would like for the club.
He hopes that, with this tournament, more bowlers will sign up as young members, since the club has more elderly members.
He added that, with more sponsorships, their aim is to provide night bowls for members. The tournament runs every first Friday of each month until the end of the year. For more information, contact Tancrell on 071 968 9091.
