Fig on the Rock brings Brakpan to the national stage as RASA Awards finalist
Brakpan restaurant Fig on the Rock has earned national acclaim as a RASA Awards finalist, celebrating outstanding service, consistency, and contribution to South Africa’s dining scene.
In a year that marks 20 years of celebrating excellence in South Africa’s restaurant industry, local favourite Fig on the Rock has been named a finalist in the prestigious RASA Awards.
The RASA (Restaurant Association of South Africa) Awards are renowned for recognising excellence in service, consistency, and contribution to the restaurant industry across South Africa.
According to Rohan du Buson, owner of the Dalview restaurant, being acknowledged during the awards’ milestone 20th year is an honour of particular significance, placing Fig on the Rock among some of the country’s most respected establishments.
“For many, this might just sound like another award. For us, it is something far deeper,” said Du Buson.
“Fig on the Rock started as a dream, a small, passionate vision to create a space where people could gather, connect, and feel at home.
“Over the years, it has grown into a place where birthdays are celebrated, friendships are built, families come together, and everyday moments turn into meaningful memories.
“And now, that journey has been recognised on a national level.”
The triumph, however, extends beyond recognition and reflects the dedication of the team behind the restaurant.
“This achievement belongs to a team that pours their heart into every plate, every cup of coffee, and every guest experience. It belongs to the staff who show up early, stay late, and serve with genuine care and pride,” said Du Buson.

“And most importantly, it belongs to the community. Our customers didn’t just support us, they believed in us.
“They voted. They shared our name. They chose local. And in doing so, they helped carry a Brakpan business onto a national stage.”
Du Buson believes that at a time when small businesses face ongoing challenges, this recognition serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of community support.
“It is not just a win for Fig on the Rock. It is a win for Brakpan,” he added.
