Crackdown on crime

Police out in full force.

Operation Shanela (sweep) saw police descend on Brakpan last Friday evening in an effort to stamp out crime in the town.

The high density operation, which was conducted between 17:00 and 02:00 the following morning, was carried out by local SAPS members and officers from other law enforcement agencies and police stations.

During the operation, 188 motor vehicles and 202 people were searched. Police also visited 10 businesses, 10 liquor outlets, 12 ATMs and 14 petrol stations.

Four illegal shebeens were closed and 14 illegal immigrants were detained. Four people were arrested for possession of drugs.

In addition, four J534 notices (admission of guilt fines) were issued. The value of the fines is R6 000.
