Brakpan hit by water outage

The Brakpan SPCA is in desperate need of water.

Frustration is growing among community members as some parts of Brakpan go another day without water.

Taps went dry in the Kenleaf, Dalview, Sunair Park, Minnebron, Witpoort and surrounding areas yesterday (Wednesday).

According to the City of Ekurhuleni, Rand Water is scheduled to replace a malfunctioning water meter today in an operation that will result in a water supply interruption. Some areas of Springs are also reported to be affected.

An 80-year-old Kenleaf resident told the Brakpan Herald the situation is infuriating.

She explained they have to use water from the swimming pool to flush toilets and have to buy water for consumption.

The water outage has also had a severe impact on the Brakpan SPCA, which is located along Denne Road, as the society is unable to clean the kennels or provide fresh drinking water to the animals.

An appeal has been made to anyone who is able to assist with a water tanker or other means.

“It is a crisis and we need help quite urgently,” said Brakpan SPCA manager Tamaryn Lombard.

The Brakpan SPCA may be contacted on 011 742 2007.
