Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from January 26 to 28.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – The driver of a truck was hijacked near the corner of Elsburg and Heidelberg roads in Dalpark at around 11:00.

The driver was forced to pull over when a white Volkswagen Polo stopped abruptly in front of him.

Three gunmen wearing balaclavas climbed out of the Polo and ran towards the driver. They pulled him out of the truck and forced him into the Polo.

A balaclava was put on the driver to cover his face and the hijackers drove around with him for about two hours.

He was released at a cemetery in Benoni.

• A gate motor was stolen from an address along Roeties van den Berg Street in Minnebron.

Saturday – A business in Voortrekker Road was burgled of TVs, kettles, washing machines and other household appliances.

• Burglars stole cash, computers, a camera system and other goods from a business along 12th Road in Maryvlei.

Sunday – Laptops, a kettle and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a Kingsway Avenue business.

• A home in Grant Street, Sherwood Gardens, was burgled of a TV.

The intruders were disturbed by the home’s occupant who heard them inside the house at around 01:45.
