Driver loses control of vehicle, crashes into bystanders
The accident occurred on December 27, with the driver hitting eight and hospitalising five.
A 30-year-old man allegedly drove into a group of people along Station Road after apparently losing control of his vehicle on the night of December 27.
“The man allegedly began spinning and performing stunts with his light-duty van on the road while bystanders cheered in the early hours of the morning,” said Brakpan SAPS corporate communications officer, Constable Audrey Buthelezi.
The police said that the driver later lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a group of people standing outside a liquor outlet at the corner of Station and Northdene streets.
Eight people were reportedly struck, of whom five were transported to hospital for medical treatment. The vehicle also damaged the front burglar door of the liquor outlet.
The driver was arrested and detained at Brakpan SAPS. He is expected to face charges including attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving, and malicious damage to property.
