Brakpan weekend crime round-up: Man abducted at Dalpark robot by hijackers in silver VW Polo

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from April 17 to 19.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A blue Toyota Etios was stolen from an address along Queen Avenue.

  • A white Mazda (undisclosed model) was stolen from the corner of Milner and Prince George avenues in Anzac.
  • A white Kia Picanto was stolen from the corner of Station Road and Kingsway Avenue.
  • Tyres and rims were stolen from a vehicle parked at an address along Swarthaak Street in Dalpark.
  • The driver of a white Nissan NP200 was robbed of the vehicle and assaulted by hijackers at the corner of Burns Street and Airport Drive in Dalpark.

The incident took place at around 10:00 while the victim was stationary at a traffic light in his work vehicle.

A silver Volkswagen Polo stopped in front of him, blocking the road. Two men then emerged from nearby bushes and forced the victim from the vehicle.

They blindfolded him and placed him inside the Polo before driving off. The victim was threatened with a firearm and instructed to comply with their demands.

His feet were tied with shoelaces, and he was later dropped off in Soweto. The victim was assaulted during the ordeal, and sustained injuries to his face and body.

Three men were involved in the incident. Cases of hijacking and kidnapping are under investigation.

Saturday – Two white Hyundai H100s were stolen in two separate incidents.
One was stolen from the corner of Voortrekker Road and End Street in Dalview, and the other from the corner of Boundary Road and Prince George Avenue.

  • A home in the Mgongo informal settlement near Brakpan North was broken into. A cellphone and bottle of cooking oil were stolen. A suspect was later arrested in connection with the incident.
  • A Voortrekker Road business was burgled of taps and other fixtures.

Sunday – Three residences on a property along Hastings Avenue were broken into. Laptops, a sound system, a TV and other valuables were stolen.

  • Burglaries were reported at two separate residences along Walkden Street in Brakpan North.

At one property, a TV was stolen from the main house, and cellphone chargers were stolen from a cottage on the property.

At the second home, a TV, computer, iPad and several pairs of shoes were stolen.

  • Musical instruments and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a business along Rangeview Road in Dalpark.
