Bail hearing for Sotheni postponed again

The former SAPS Special Task Force member’s bail hearing has been pushed to a later date.

Matiphandile Sotheni (41), the accused in the murder case of Brenthurst resident Marius “Vlam” van der Merwe, made a brief appearance in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court today (Friday) for a bail application.

The matter was postponed to May 18, and the case has been transferred to the Brakpan Regional Court.

Sotheni, a former SAPS Special Task Force member, faces six charges: conspiracy to commit murder, murder, three counts of attempted murder, and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

He remains in custody.
