Woman’s death under investigation as police make arrest

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman whose body was found in a shack.

A man was arrested on a charge of murder in the Mkhancwa informal settlement in Maryvlei on May 31 after the body of a woman was discovered inside a shack.

The suspect and the victim were known to each other.

According to police information, an officer on patrol was notified of the incident at about 17:30 and responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officer was met by community members and approached by a woman who said she had been a close friend of the deceased.

Emergency services personnel were already on the scene, and the victim had been declared dead.

The officer entered the shack and found the woman lying on a bed, facing upwards. She had sustained an injury to her forehead.

The body was transported to the Springs Mortuary. Police investigations are continuing.
