Tsakani – Tshegofatso Ditshego(12) is already proving that leadership is not measured by age but by character, commitment, and the willingness to serve others.

A Grade Six learner at Laerskool Môrewag in Brakpan, Ditshego has distinguished herself as one of the school’s outstanding young achievers, balancing academic excellence, sporting success, leadership, public speaking, and community service with remarkable maturity.

Recognised on numerous occasions as one of Laerskool Môrewag’s Top 10 academic achievers, Ditshego believes that every opportunity is a chance to learn, grow, and positively influence those around her.

Her leadership journey extends beyond the classroom.

“I proudly serve as a member of the Shooting Stars team and as a Patrol Leader in the 1st Motheo Scout Group, where I have developed valuable skills in responsibility, teamwork, resilience, and servant leadership.

“This year, I am working towards completing my Patrol Leaders Training Course (PLTC), an important milestone in my Scouting journey,” she said.

Away from academics and leadership, Ditshego is equally passionate about sport. She has represented the Eastern Hockey High Performance (HP) Team, while also competing in netball and athletics.

Her athletic achievements include representing District 5 (D5) in the high jump and competing in long jump and road running, demonstrating her dedication to both personal discipline and healthy competition.

“This showcases how hardworking and ambitious I am. My talents also extend to public speaking and drama, where I have developed the confidence to communicate effectively and inspire others through my voice,” she added.

What truly sets Ditshego apart, however, is not only her list of achievements but the values that guide her life.

Inspired by lessons learned through Scouting, she firmly believes that “a child is like a young plant—it cannot grow alone.”

Ditshego credits her family, teachers, mentors, coaches, and most importantly her mother, who has instilled so much value and confidence in her.

She thanks her Scout leaders for helping shape her journey and instilling discipline in her.

Despite her impressive accomplishments, Ditshego remains grounded and compassionate and committed.

She openly shares that she is deeply emotional, seeing this not as a weakness but as one of her greatest strengths.

“I cry easily because I care deeply. Every achievement, challenge and memory reminds me how blessed I am to grow through every experience,” she mentioned.

Her faith has also become an important source of strength. One of her favourite Bible verses, Isaiah 41:10, continues to encourage her:

“Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you,” she mentioned.

Looking ahead, Ditshego aspires to become a leader who makes a meaningful difference in society. Whether through education, sport, community service or leadership.

She hopes to use every platform available to inspire young people to believe in themselves, work hard, lead with integrity, and serve others with kindness.

Her story is a reminder that greatness begins long before adulthood. It starts with courage, compassion, discipline, and the determination to make every opportunity count.

As Ditshego continues to grow, she is not only building an impressive list of achievements but also becoming the kind of young leader who inspires hope for the future of South Africa.
