Cosy Corner Moths re-elect leadership at annual general meeting

The local shellhole re-elects its executive committee while ongoing restoration work continues on one of its Crusader tanks.

The Cosy Corner Moth Shellhole commemorated its 99th birthday on September 1, followed by its annual general meeting on September 3.

During the AGM, the top table (executive committee) was re-elected and installed by the East Rand District Executive, who travelled through for the occasion.

The top table members are Patrick Whelan (Pay Bill), Nigel Ellerbeck (Wee Bill), Robert Beech (Old Bill), Maximillian Kiewiet Joubert (Adjutant) and Chris Hand (Sergeant Major).

As reported by the Brakpan Herald in August, the shellhole welcomed a new addition to the premises – a Cruiser Mk VI, also known as a Crusader II – with restoration work currently underway.

“We have started on one of the Crusader tanks. The hull and turret have been cleaned and primed while we source period correct colour paint,” said Beech.

“Some of the ancillaries have been removed for refurbishment, and some of the support structure will be replaced with new steel.”

Restoration work is also planned for “Mona”, an artillery gun.
