NOTICE OF A WATER USE LICENCE APPLICATION IN TERMS OF THE NATIONAL WATER ACT, 1998 (ACT NO. 36 OF 1998) Notice is hereby given that Frys Metals has appointed Environmental Consultant, Isowel Trading and Projects as the independent environmental consultant to submit a Water Use Licence Application (WULA) to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) for the proposed Infrastructure Upgrade for Fry`s Metals Facility situated on Erf 589 on the corner of Osborn and Tedstone Roads in Wadeville, Germiston in the Gauteng Province. Proposed Water Uses The application is being submitted for authorisation of the following water use(s) in terms of Section 21 of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No. 36 of 1998): – Section 21(a): “Taking water from a water resource.” – Section 21(g): “Disposing of waste in a manner which may detrimentally impact on a water resource`. Description of the Proposed Activity Fry`s Metals is a lead recycling firm. Its activities include the recycling of spent lead acid batteries and other lead bearing materials (i.e. battery plates, scrap lead, lead dross, lead paste, etc.) through smelting and refining processes into lead ingots. Lead ingots are then sold to battery and electrical industries as raw material for further production of lead-based products such as automotive batteries, cables, anode plates, lead sheeting, etc. These activities are authorized by the National Environment Management Act: Waste Act (59 of 2008). The facility will upgrade stormwater management infrastructure on site. Invitation to Register as an Interested and Affected Party (I&AP) Members of the public, landowners, organs of state, community organisations and any other interested or affected parties are invited to register as Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) and submit written comments regarding the application. Comment Period The comment period will run for 60 days from date of issue of this public notice.
