In the spotlight

Getting to know Jenny-Lee McDonald.

Jenny-Lee McDonald (38) is the public relations officer at Hirsch’s Carnival. The Springs resident joined the appliance store in June, last year, and previously worked in sales. Jenny-Lee is engaged to Grigorios De Paiva (36) and is a stepmom to Andricco (11).

• Describe a typical day at the office. What does your job entail?

I get to work every morning at 7am, even though we only open at 8.30am.

It gives me enough time to plan my day.

We have a morning meeting with staff at 8am to find out what the agenda is for the day.

Each person in our branch gets to do a motivation, compliment (where we compliment someone for a job well done), health tip and “proud to be number one”.

Mr and Mrs Hirsch visit our store at least once a week and the meeting is normally filled with motivation and dance.

I do demonstrations with one of the products we have in our store, so people can see how to use it.

I plan up-coming events that we will hold at our store.

We even have coffee and muffin mornings at different businesses.

• What do you like most about your job?

The one thing about public relations is that you should be able to speak to people.

Public relations is such a wonderful platform to meet new people from all walks of life.

I am very lucky that I get to do some good because Hirsch’s is set on improving people’s lives.

Whether it’s with the appliances we sell, or by having a workshop for housekeepers or advising the customers of appliances features and benefits.

• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I love history, so anything to do with history I love to read about or watch.

• What is the most important lesson life has taught you?

Never give up.

Fall down, dust yourself off and carry on.

• What does 2017 have in store for you? What would you like to accomplish this year?

I want carry on with my studies.

I am loving what I do and want to see how far I can grow with Hirsch’s, and getting married in October.

• If you had the power to solve one and only one problem in the world, what would it be and why?

I wish all the stray animals could find loving homes.

• If you could only keep five possessions, what would they be and why?

Make-up – you should always look your best and I can’t go without my war paint.

My toothbrush – oral hygiene is very important.

Clean underwear – I don’t need to explain this one.

A good bra – support is crucial.

Comfortable shoes – my mom always says that even if you don’t have transport, you can still walk, and shoes are your tyres.

I love my mom.

• What are you most afraid of and why?

Losing my mom.

She is the strongest person I have ever met and I still need her in my life.

• If you could witness any event of the past, present, or future, what would it be and why?

To witness space travel and maybe get to meet other beings.

• What is your favourite thing about Brakpan?

The people.

The people here stand together and there is really a sense of community.

If someone needs help, someone else steps in.

I love it.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
