DFC’s best performers are rewarded

Dalpark Football Club (DFC) hosted their annual awards evening on Saturday, May 31.

Team coach Ebrahim Fray started the team in 2012, with the aim of keeping young men in the community away from the bad things in society, by playing soccer.

The team, which draws players from Dalpark, Duduza and Tsakane, finished in sixth position in the Benoni South Local Football Association Division One – the same position as in the 2013 season, but with a larger point haul.

There were a number of positives to take out of the season for Fray and his players, such as reaching the finals of the annual Reiger Park Easter Festival, in April, and beating the number one placed team 5-2.

The guest speaker at the awards evening was former Moroka Swallows and Bloemfontein Celtic player Augusto Leonard.

“It is a pleasure and honour to coach these men and I encourage the parents of the players and the community at large to assist us with this project,” said Fray.

He thanked the local sponsors who have come on board to assist the team, and thanked his pillar of strength, his wife, Denise, as well as Jolanda Scott-Wilson, who assisted with the organising of the function.

Award winners on the night were:

  • Most Improved Player of the Year: shared by Luazi Poqaui and Dean Mohanilal.
  • Young Player of the Year: Dylan Fray.
  • Top Goal-scorer: Lincoln Nyathi.
  • Player of the Year: Elvis Seratji.
