Dube dominates on home turf
Call it home course knowledge, or just an impressive and accomplished skill-set.
Call it what you like, but Royal Oak Country Club’s professional and golf director, Kenneth Dube, is a man on form.
The golfer showed that he is on a bit of a roll lately against his fellow professionals.
His club hosted the annual Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of South Africa Gauteng Central Regional Pro-Am, on Monday, May 4, at the Brakpan-based golf course, and Dube continued the good momentum that saw him win the Sun International Klipdrift Club Pro-Am, at the Gary Player Country Club, at Sun City, on April 23, by finishing in top spot in the individual professional stakes on his home course.
The host professional shot an excellent round of 68 (four under par) and was the only professional of 28 to shoot under par at Royal Oak, on Monday.
His fourball, the Smats Group, finished as runners-up behind State Mines Country Club professional Alrich Labuschagne and his fourball.
Tournament sponsor Sello Tsubele, of Smats Group, said they are trying to make this pro-am one of the biggest in the country, with the ultimate aim of encouraging amateur players to continue playing golf and to help develop golf in Ekurhuleni.
The results from the pro-am are:
- Individual professional results: 1 K Dube 68; 2 L Roux 72; 3 Craig Stickling 72; 4 A Labuschagne 73; 5 L Eveleigh 73.
- Team results: 1 A Labuschagne, T Bronkhorst, G Nel and P Labuschagne 91; 2 K Dube, S Tsubele, W Ebeling and H du Plessis 90; 3 L Eveleigh, T Pretorius, R Bartram and M Askew 89; 4 Ruan Prinsloo, A van der Merwe, R van Jaarsveld and P Pienaar 89; 5 C Stickling, T Pirie, R Pirie and D Pirie 88.
