WATCH: Flaming tunnel stuntmen narrowly escape disaster

Two of the country’s most experienced stuntmen narrowly escaped disaster at Carnival City on Wednesday, last week when their test run with a quad bike through a fire tunnel went slightly pear-shaped.

Enrico Schoeman and André de Kock are trying to set a new Guinness distance world record for the longest ride of a quad bike through a tunnel of fire.

Still good after a slight hiccough, André de Kock (left) and Enrico Schoeman.

The duo holds the Guinness World Record for riding a motorcycle through a tunnel of fire, set at 120m in 2012.

Last Wednesday evening’s quad bike test run of 30m went wrong when the 400cc Honda’s engine cut out due to air starvation near the end of the tunnel.

The rear wheels locked, causing the bike to slide sideways, hit the side of the tunnel and flip.

Fortunately, it crashed just outside of the flaming tunnel, and the two riders only suffered a few cuts and bruises.

The team will go back to the drawing board, with another run planned in the next two months.
