Senior golfers looking for members

The Ekurhuleni Senior Women’s Golf (ESWF) president, Charmaine Stone, invited women over 50 interested in golf to contact the club captains at courses near them.

Stone said they host a monthly senior women’s tournament at golf courses around the region and are open to new members.

“We play once a month at golf courses around Ekurhuleni.

“Our numbers are already at 145 women playing in our tournaments and average about 70 to 75 players per tournament,” she said.

The organisation recently hosted the senior women’s national championships at Benoni Country Club and Ebotse Links.

Sonja Louw from ESWF was the 36 holes stableford champion, while the Chicks ‘n Stix team were runners-up in the team event. Lorraine Cross, Martie Becker and Lenore Simpson were stand-out performers during the national tournament.

The nearest to pins winners during the Ekurhuleni Senior Women’s Golf June tournament in Edenvale Leslie Nienaber and Martie Becker.

Leslie Nienaber from ESWF thanked Stone and Becker for their stellar work leading to the championships.

June ESWF results from Glendower Golf Club:

1. Jen Anderson and Bev Bray – 49 points
2. Toula Arnold and Rhona Topka – 46 points
3. Hazel Rushforth and Judy Coppin – 45 points.

• Leslie Nienaber – 17th hole
