Brakpan Blazers Cricket Club recognises players at prizegiving

Three of the four teams made it to the semi-finals, and one made it to the finals in a local tournament.

Brakpan Blazers Cricket Club, founded recently for children but already making waves, held its prizegiving on April 11.

Of the four teams, U8, U10, U10 Platinum and U14, three made it to the semi-finals of a local tournament, while the U10 Platinum team finalled.

“This year we did a lot with very little, and next season we’ll have so much more,” said Francois Botha, the club’s chairperson.

“We have two more fields to play on. We’re going to focus more on player development and invest in coaches’ training.

“We’re also hosting a golf day to pay for repairs to the pitches at one of our venues, and we want to start training again at the end of July, as the next season starts in September. We’ll have tryouts in the middle of August to determine the teams,” he said.

Each team was recognised for their efforts in the previous season with a trophy, a goodie bag and a certificate, while each team also had special awards for best bowler, batter of the season, best fielder and most improved.

The new club committee was also announced during the prizegiving.

Cathy Lues is the new social media manager, Deo-Mari Kapp is the new administrator, Johan van Greynen is the head of the junior coaches, Hennie Gouws is the groundsman, Wernher Schwahn is the club captain, and Francois Botha remains chairperson.
