Learners, parents, staff members and residents from the surrounding community gathered in the streets of Dalpark Ext 6 on May 9 to take part in Dalpark Independent School’s annual Big Walk.
Although the morning started off cold, the chilly weather did little to dampen the excitement as families came together for a lively day outdoors.
The event is open not only to the school community, but also welcomes members of the public to join in the fun.
Each year, participants of all ages and fitness levels complete a 5km route winding through the suburb.
EMPD members assisted along the route to ensure a safe and enjoyable walk. Constables Ndamulelo Nematshwerang, Itumeleng Moshomane and Thokozani Dlamini are from the Brakpan EMPD precinct. The walk started at 09:00, with police officers, EMPD members, paramedics and teachers stationed along the route to assist and guide walkers.
This year’s event drew nearly 250 participants, all eager to enjoy some exercise, fresh air and community spirit.
After the walk, the celebrations carried on at the school grounds where visitors explored a market and took part in a range of entertaining activities and games.
They were spoiled for choice with delicious food, sweet treats and a variety of stalls selling fun items, while competitions and prizes added even more excitement to the day.
