Armed robbers hold Leachville family at gunpoint
The family was forced into a room and tied up while robbers transferred funds and ransacked the house.
A Leachville family was held at gunpoint during a house robbery on the evening of June 1 after armed robbers entered their home along Waterval Street at around 20:00.
Police information reveals that a family member was going to his room, situated outside the main house, when he was confronted by two armed men as he walked from the living room to the kitchen.
The intruders, one of whom pointed a firearm at him, had gained entry through the kitchen door, which was unlocked because the man intended to leave the house .
The robbers instructed him to remain quiet and forced him into the living room. They then ordered everyone present in the living room to move to a bedroom.

The man’s parents, brother and other family members were also rounded up and taken to the bedroom.
The family members were tied up, while one robber remained guarding them.
The robbers took the victims’ cellphones and instructed them to remove all passwords and security features.
They then accessed their banking apps and transferred funds from their accounts. The robbers communicated with an accomplice outside the house, and gave instructions to withdraw the cash.
One robber later returned with a set of keys and asked which key opened the gates. The man was escorted outside to assist in opening the gates before being taken back to the bedroom.

A short while later, he heard the gate opening and a vehicle entering the driveway. Before leaving, the robbers instructed the family to remain still. Shortly thereafter, the family heard the main gate closing.
After waiting about five minutes, the man and his brother left the bedroom and discovered the robbers had fled the house.
Among the stolen items were TVs, an amplifier, speakers, a pistol and ammunition, shoes, a smartwatch and wristwatch, cellphones, blankets, tools and other valuables.
Brakpan police are investigating a case of house robbery.
