Ekurhuleni opens applications for free IT courses with international certificates
The initiative aims to equip Ekurhuleni residents with valuable digital skills to improve employability and participation in the digital economy.
The City of Ekurhuleni has encouraged residents to apply for free online courses that will provide them with an opportunity to gain internationally recognised certificates in the field of information technology (IT).
Applications for the free online courses are now open and will close on June 30.
The city explained that the multi-course programme is presented by international technology company Computer Information Systems Company (SISCO) in partnership with the City of Ekurhuleni and the National Library of South Africa. The programme is scheduled to commence on August 5.
The courses include:
- Introduction to digital literacy;
•Introduction to computer hardware and operating systems; - Introduction to cybersecurity;
•Introduction to networking; and
•Introduction to artificial intelligence (AI).
The city said that residents interested in participating are encouraged to apply online and ensure that they meet the following requirements:
- Must be a resident of Ekurhuleni (provide proof of residence not older than three months);
- Must have a Grade 12 certificate; and
- Must not have a formal IT or related qualification.
Preference will be given to unemployed youth.
