Robber strikes after victim uses phone to help stranger

The victim was threatened with a sharp object and forced to hand over her belongings.

A woman waiting for a taxi in Dalpark was lured into a conversation before being robbed of her cellphone and money on June 19.

The incident took place near Airport Drive at about 14:00.

Police information reveals the victim was approached by a woman who claimed to be looking for a nearby business.

The victim then took out her cellphone to search for the location online and informed the woman that the nearest branch was in Benoni.

While the pair continued talking, another woman approached and appeared to know the first woman.

A man then grabbed the victim from behind, placing one hand around her neck and pressed a sharp object against her back with the other.

The victim could not identify exactly what the object was. The man demanded that she hand over all her belongings.

During the ordeal, the first woman allegedly told the victim, “Just give them to him so he does not hurt you.”

The robber then took the victim’s iPhone and R200 in cash before all three fled the scene. A case of armed robbery is under investigation by Brakpan police.
