The police in Carletonville warns that the owners of certain vehicles must be very careful in town.
During the past weekend five vehicles of different makes were stolen in the Carletonville CBD.
One thing that all the stolen vehicles had in common, was that they had number plates from outside South Africa.
The thieves are targeting these vehicles because they are not listed on the electronic national administration traffic information system (NaTIS). Because of this, it takes a much longer time that with an SA registered vehicle to inform law enforcers in other parts of the country that the particular vehicle has been stolen.
The owners of vehicles with foreign number plates are asked to, whether possible, leave someone with the car or pay a parking guard to look after it to ensure that it does not fall into criminals’ hands.
