No electricity for residents after cable falls

A steel electricity cable in Mabel Street, Townsview was left lying in the street for over 24 hours, even though it had been reported by residents in the area, who had no electricity supply.

TOWNSVIEW – “The cable had fallen down again on Tuesday evening after having been reconnected three times previously but due to bad workmanship had fallen again. I phoned and logged a complaint with City Power on Wednesday July 9, first thing in the morning and another neighbour did the same a few hours later.

“It’s a disgrace residents are left without electricity through no fault of their own but because a criminal chooses to try and steal cables!  This is the third time this has happened!

“In the end, in desperation, I went myself to City Power in Reuven to report the matter again and received another reference number.

“The service one gets from City Power is atrocious and in this cold weather to not have electricity is disgusting,” the Mabel Street resident said.

Eventually City Power attended to the broken cable on Wednesday evening at 23:30.
