THIRTY exhibitors presented their unique services to learners who attended the annual Randeor School career day in Mondeor on August 13.
“We had representatives armed with information pamphlets, pens, water bottles and plenty of other freebies. The career day was especially held for our 150 learners who are finishing their school career on October 30,” said Randeor School media liaison, Anandi Spies.
The career day seeks to prove to learners that if they believe in themselves and work hard they can achieve their goals and enjoy a wonderful future.
Non-profit organisations (NGOs), FET colleges and other institutions who attended this year catered for learners’ unique skills.
“Our learners learn different skills in their five years at Randeor and do not get a matric certificate at the end of their school career,” added Spies. Every learner obtains a skills certificate which enables them to prove the level of their skill and education to any prospective employer.
“Our learners live with mild to moderate intellectual challenges and are differently abled in plumbing, panel beating, wood-, plate- and metalwork, cooking, welding, computer skills, computyping, arts and crafts. Learners are also taught skills to assist them in the restaurant, hair and beauty industries.”
According to the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) score sheets and labour legislation, every business is required to have a two percent disability representation. This provides learners with employment opportunities and could assist companies to obtain points.
The school extends a plea to businesses in the South and in Soweto to contact the school office on 011 680 1446 or Anandi Spies on 082 45 07314 should they have any career opportunities or temporary work opportunities available for the learners.
