St Declan’s awards for top achievers
Kayden Duncan and Dev Bhula were awarded the junior and senior Dux Scholar awards for their outstanding academic achievements. Scott Weinmann received the “Officium” (commitment award) and the two most prestigious awards the junior and senior Sir Declan awards were awarded to Kayden Duncan and Tshiamo Matlala.
ST Declan’s School for Boys hosted its annual honours evening on December 5. The event rewarded learners from Grade 1 to Grade 7 who stood out above the rest, achieving outstanding results in academics and sport.
The top three achievers in each Grade 1 to Grade 3 class, received academic awards for averages of over 80 per cent. The top two achievers in grades four, six and seven were awarded for results of a high standard in each subject. The top learners in each grade received top achiever awards for maintaining the highest overall average.
The award winners were: Grade 1 – Ishaan Hari; Grade 2 – Keshav Munnisunker; Grade 3 – Kayden Duncan; Grade 4 – Dev Bhula; Grade 6 – Callan Osner and Grade 7 – Tshiamo Matlala. Cultural awards went to Avethandwa Ntombele (Grade 1) and Blake Petersen (Grade 7), for their achievements in the Alberton Eisteddfod.
Awards were also handed out to the top achievers in a number of different sports: Junior cricketer – Joshua Govender; senior cricketer – Jayden de Klerk; junior swimmer – David Moodie; senior swimmer – Joshua Botha; junior footballer – Lwandle Mcineka; rugby player – Charles Bimray; and touch rugby player – Cullen Mulherbe.
Special sports awards were awarded to sportsmen who were selected to represent district and provincial teams. Scrolls were awarded to Olubanzi Nawa (football) and Jayden de Klerk (touch rugby), with full colours for Cullen Malherbe (touch rugby). Kayden Duncan and Dev Bhula were awarded the junior and senior Dux Scholar awards, for their outstanding academic achievements.
