Anticipation and jubilation for matrics

Learners, teachers, parents and friends gathered at schools in the South to await the matric results.

IT was the moment the 2016 matriculants had been waiting for when they gathered at their respective schools for the matric examination results.

Learners at Mondeor High School began to gather from 08:00, with most having a pretty good idea what their results would be while others waited patiently, hoping they’d achieved better results than they expected.

Principal Mrs V Nicolaou, always a shoulder to rely on, was mingling among the learners expressing her support and congratulations as the results were released.

For Zuha Ajlan, who came to live in South Africa from Pakistan three years ago, her two distinctions made for celebratory cheering from learners and staff alike. “It was a challenging year but also a good year and I’m very pleased with our overall results,” said Mrs Nicolaou.

Glenvista High School was also abuzz following the release of the results. Learners, parents, teachers, family and friends alike were at the school to congratulate the matriculants on their outstanding results. Two learners, Jimmy Yuan and Jennifer Zhar, excelled with eight distinctions.

Yolinda de Jongh, principal of Glenvista High, said she was happy with the results as the matriculants had worked extremely hard. Jimmy Yuan, who achieved 100 per cent in mathematics and 99 per cent in physical science, business studies and accounting also achieved 96 per cent in the IEB (Independent Examinations Board) applied mathematics examination.

Meanwhile, at Abbotts College Johannesburg South two learners achieved four distinctions.
