OUR Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic School, situated in Liefde en Vrede, opened in January 2011 and has since grown. Its current Grade Seven learners will be the first to enter its new high school next year.
“Most of our learners come from the surrounding areas. We offer Lebanese and Arabic languages, as some of our learners were born in Lebanon, having immigrated to South Africa. We are open to all communities and from Grade One we introduce Zulu as a language,” said school principal Debbie Auby.
In 2011 the school began with 40 children and four teachers, offering Grade RR to Grade One.
Currently there are 302 children and 22 teachers, with classes from 20 to 25.
“We are a fully private independent school and a member of the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and we are working towards writing IEB matric examinations. We have four terms and have just added an indoor swimming pool and sport facilities, including a combination tennis and netball court. We also offer an aftercare until 5.15pm, with security being of very high importance,” added Auby. “I know each child by name in the school and we try to create a family environment, giving each child the attention they deserve.”
In January 2018 the high school will open its doors with 19 children. “Exciting times ahead for all of us,” said Auby.
