The CHRONICLE asked readers for their opinion on Oscar Pistorius’ re-sentencing, which is now for 13 years and five months, for the killing of Reeva Steenkamp.
“Thirteen years is a very light sentence. He should have gotten at least 25 years to life. Just because he is a public figure does not mean he should get away with murder so easily.”
“I think the sentence should have been correct in the first place, it must be harder for him now. But it’s a crime and he has to pay for it and face the consequences. Sometimes I do feel sorry for him though.”
“I totally agree with the resentencing and I think it’s only fair it’s been made longer. It is a pity it has taken such a long time for judgment since he killed Reeva Steenkamp though.”
“He should stay in jail for the rest of his life. We’re talking about a life of a human being that has been taken! Thirteen years is definitely not a justifiable sentence.”
