Motivational day inspires all
“We all have something magical inside us and with unconditional love from God and family and friends around me, I became a changed man.”
THE morning of February 24 got off to a fine start with the Wesley Lofstedt Foundation hosting an inspirational day at Thornbirds Conference and Wedding Centre in Eikenhof.
Wesley Lofstedt chatted to the audience about his journey in life, beginning in the Maldives where he met people who helped him to change his lifestyle.
“We all have something magical inside us and with unconditional love from God and family and friends around me, I became a changed man, intent on doing good and following a healthy lifestyle. Now I want to help people in distress who feel they have reached the end and have no one to turn to in their hour of need,” said Wesley. “If I can save one person a week, just one person, I’ll feel I’ve achieved part of my goals,” he added.
He introduced guest speakers, Martin DeWee, a bodybuilder and Jörg Schwarze and John McAllister from Life on the Streets (Lots), as well as Henrietta van Kramberg, a cancer survivor and Gale Fick from The Pink Ladies.
Jörg said when he and John, along with Clive Fourie, met they began helping homeless people on the streets of Alberton and initially went out with one big pot of soup.
“Now we meet every week at Alberton Methodist Church on Wednesday evenings at 7pm and go out into the community to help feed the homeless. We have also organised blanket drives, food runs, and care packages.

“While out we meet people on the streets from all walks of life – doctors, architects, engineers and many more who one time had successful careers. Our journey has been a long one, we think we serve people but they serve us too. We need to get the homeless off the streets and get a shelter going. We have found land in Alberton North which is zoned for agriculture and we hope to begin farming so the homeless can become self-sufficient.
“We’ve found the community in Alberton to be compassionate and giving and thank them for all their help, including donations, along the way,” Jörg added.
Martin DeWee who used to live in Pietermaritzburg spoke about how he learned to box when he was a youngster so he could defend himself. He came to live in Johannesburg when he was 10 years old and his dream was to become a world heavyweight champion.
“I stopped boxing because I didn’t like hurting people.” Martin went on to appear in a couple of movies and met his wife who said, “Me or making movies!” So he decided his wife was much more important! “We were married for 28 years and sadly she passed away two years ago.”
In 2004 his first book Drug Free Muscle Training was published, where he tells of how important it is to stop using steroids to build muscle and not to touch alcohol and drugs.
“Recently my book, The Body Mechanic, was launched and this features eating the correct foods and leading a healthy lifestyle. A lot of what you put into your body will tell you later how your body feels,” Martin said. He went on to give advice on what to eat and what not to eat.
For anyone who is really interested in eating right, losing weight and becoming healthier, The Body Mechanic will give you everything you need to know.

Recently Martin has been visiting schools, talking about the right and wrong way to train and eat correctly.
“I’m more than happy to visit local schools to talk to the learners and will gladly assist. If you are interested, give me a call on 084 865 0000.” Visit his Facebook page: Drug Free Training or YouTube Martin DeWee.
The inspirational day was enjoyed immensely by all who attended the event.
“Thank you to you all for being here today and I think we’ve all learned something positive from the speakers,” said Wesley.
